A reinforced earth bund called the Duna System is utilised to create acoustic and visual barriers.
Depending on the preferences of the client, each face can be chosen to either be vegetated or have a stone finish. The steep, often almost vertical, faces of the embankment are formed by stacking modular, two-sided sections on top of one another. Geogrids for soil reinforcement that are afterwards backfilled with compacted material join the face elements to one another.
In order to speed up on-site assembly, the modular fascia components and connecting geogrids are pre-fabricated in our factories. The fascia modules should only be erected and supported at the proper face angle using the bracing that is provided by the contractor. Following that, face filling and structural backfilling for the soil reinforcement portion can start.
The double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh used to create the soil reinforcement geogrids is coated with an extra polymer coating and Zn-Al galvanising for protection. The outside facings are constructed from a steel weldmesh that has been Zn-Al galvanised for protection.
