There is a chance that dirt will collapse from the slope when it is applied to surfaces with little friction. Surprisingly often, this circumstance occurs when capping landfills, on the shores of reservoirs, lakes, and dams, among other places.

It is probable that a geosynthetic membrane liner has already been used in these solutions. In order to encourage re-vegetation, topsoil is deposited on the liner. Because of the low friction, this topsoil may slump and needs veneer support.

Special Mats, or reinforced mats, are 3D geomats with variable thicknesses that are positioned over low friction surfaces to act as a grip layer for the soil. For soil stability on long slopes without intermediate support, MacMat® R is available at high tensile strengths.

Utilizing specialised soil veneer design tools, we advise clients on the thickness and kind of mat that is needed.
